Hey there friends! Long time no see! This past year since launching The Cozy Home Collective I have been working very hard to get my shop going. The physical shop inside Serendipity Market in Edmond, OK is doing well!! I have loved learning the ins and outs of keeping a store front stocked and styled. I've learned a lot about my style and what might sell and what might not. Of course we never can REALLY know am I right?
I love being creative and making seasonal home decor that you would love to have in your home. I also love curated other home decor and gifts items and discovering new companies to buy from and support. I also love thrifting and finding one of a kind items that can be updated, refurbished, or are just treasures.
I have been pondering this new year the next steps for the business. The purpose, and new ways I can serve my customers.
As I am scouring shops for just the right products, I am always thinking about things that could help create a cozy home. One of my goals as a wife and mom has always been to create a home that is welcoming and cozy. A place that my family loves coming back to. Even as an empty nester, I love that my family enjoys being home. I want visitors to feel like they can come in and make themselves at home.
So, what kinds of things make a home cozy? It's different for everyone, but I believe that it is simply what brings you joy. Do you like neutral? Than keep things neutral and simple. Do you like color? Then experiment with all the color? You get the idea hopefully. People talk about design trends, or rules, but I think that it is ridiculous to dictate design when everyone's style and taste is different.
Back in the day when my hubby and I bought our first house I would buy home magazines and tear out pages of things that I liked. I look for pictures that calm my mind when I look at them. That is the definition of cozy to me. A new tool that came on the scene several years ago that has made all of this searching so much easier, and cheaper...Pinterest!
Do you have a Pinterest account?? If not, go get one! And then, follow me here! If you are at a loss when trying to decorate a room, create a board and start pinning. Again, look for images that calm your mind or make you smile. You should be able to see a trend after a while. Take note of the things in the pictures that are the same. That is your style! These are the kinds of things you should be looking for when shopping for home decor!
The second part of "The Cozy Home Collective"...take your time. I think the coziest homes are collected. It takes time to fill a space with furniture, art and decor that show your style. I love having a collection of new, old, and homemade decor in my home. I have several pieces of furniture that I scored at a garage sale, or a thrift stores. Solid wood pieces that are made well, will last well past their prime. Many just need to be sanded and refinished or painted to be given new life! Homemade pillow covers are a great way to change up your decor from season to season or holiday to holiday.
So, if you have a goal to make your home more cozy this year, I hope this has been helpful! If you are local please make a visit to my shop to find some things to help you achieve that goal! I am going to be working on getting the online shop up and running this year, so being on the lookout for that! There are a couple of other ideas that are ruminating in my mind that I am kind of excited about. :) I will be sharing these with you soon! Are you on our email list? If you want to be notified when new things are happening then you will want to get on that list! Thanks so much for coming along on this journey and supporting our small shop!
